Building for Fun

Sure, we’re proud of the business side of our success at Bowen.  When a Bowen project team descends upon a project, the professionalism and expertise of our people are what our clients identify as the Bowen Difference Maker.  It is really exciting when the opportunity arises to see this level of passion for service applied to community service projects.

Bowen was recently approached with a service opportunity from project organizers Robin Deem and Laurie Witting from Good Shepherd School in Evansville, IN.  The school, after years of planning and fund raising efforts, had successfully purchased much-needed playground equipment.  Having successfully cleared the hurdle of procuring the large set, it now had to answer the big question:  How do we assemble all this stuff in three days?

Bowen employees rose to the challenge, along with dozens of parent volunteers, giving one Friday and a weekend to help construct the new playground.

Superintendent Mike Tuley and Project Engineer Jason Deadmond led the construction operation, putting their planning and communications skills to good use. Other volunteers from Bowen included  Steve Gladding (Project Manager), Josh Kellam (Project Engineer), Donnie Mize (Superintendent), Meghan Wolf (Project Coordinator), Jill Heuer (Project Coordinator), Tim Barnett (Marketing Director), Aaron Purdue (Evansville Operations Manager) and Jeff Purdue (Southern Division Manager).

The following Monday morning, the playground was complete and ready for the hundreds of kids that were visibly pleased with the weekend’s progress.  The school conducted a special ribbon cutting dedication ceremony for the playground, and the site was blessed by Good Shepherd’s Deacon Ed Wilkerson.  Good Shepherd Principal Judy VanHoosier delivered a moving speech thanking the Bowen Engineering team and all of the volunteers for their hard work.
